The University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr) is the strategic alliance of the Ruhr University Bochum, TU Dortmund University and the University of Duisburg-Essen. With over 120,000 students and 14,000 researchers, UA Ruhr represents one of the largest and high-performing research and study locations in Germany. Students enrolled at one of the UA Ruhr universities can attend lectures and seminars at all three institutions. Consequently, they have many options to specialize in and to explore their chosen disciplines in depth. There are some 180 master‘s degree programs, many of them offered in English, in engineering and science, as well as in the social sciences and humanities. Working closely with our internationally renowned faculty, students earn a degree that is highly respected by employers around the world. The UA Ruhr universities do not charge tuition fees. Students pay a low semester fee that includes a semester pass for public transportation throughout the entire state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The modern Ruhr Area with its more than five million people is green, cosmopolitan and enthusiastic about culture: old industrial sites have been turned into monuments and serve as venues for countless, often international, cultural and musical events every year. Approximately 200 museums, 120 theaters, 100 cultural centers and 250 festivals per year make the Ruhr Area a vibrant metropolis that attracts many international visitors.
